Traffic Law–When to use a child safety seat

For many parents it is difficult to determine when your child can be restrained with a normal seatbelt. A good starting point is Arkansas Law. Children who are less than 6 years of age and who weigh less than 60 pounds must be restrained in a child passenger safety seat properly secured to your vehicle when traveling. If the child is at least 6 years of age or at least 60 pounds in weight, it is sufficient under the law for the child to be restrained with a properly secured safety belt.  Ark. Code Ann. Sec. 27-34-104.
